Giving Day 2011 – Acres of Hope

If you have ever seen the popular HGTV shows Yard Crashers and Turf Wars you probably have marveled at how quickly a yard can be transformed from “blah” to “tada!” Well that’s exactly what took place in Applegate, CA, last weekend. With the tireless help of several landscape contractors, artisans, and dozens of BH&G agents and their families, the grounds of Acres of Hope renewal center for at-risk women and their children saw a huge overhaul their play areas and recreational grounds. Over $2000.00 was donated from our agents and affiliate partners to purchase materials needed for the transformation, but the real value came from everyone pitching in and putting in the hard work to get all the projects completed.

Below is a list of what took place just in one day…

· New landscaping surrounding the kids play area with turf, raised redwood planter boxes, and arena fine surface installed. Steve Linton designed this area ad it turned out amazing. Volunteers worked on this area from sunrise until approximately 7:00pm.

· New parking area retaining wall was installed.

· New stamped concrete patio and landscaping was installed outside the main family room of the facility along with patio furniture and flower pots.

· Electrical work and new coach lighting was installed in the patio area.

· The exterior of one out building was completely repainted.

· The art on the playground was repainted.

· Bridge was painted.

· An old dirty boat play structure was cleaned up and repainted. (kids were playing in it by late afternoon).

· New tether ball and basketball hoops were installed.

· Reorganization of storage area, mail area and office was completed.

· Custom benches were made.
